My Story
I got labeled as "The YOGOWYPI Guy" and I like it! Some would call it my "brand" but that makes it sound like it happened on purpose, it was all really an accident, that came as a result of sharing simple truths in a powerful way to nearly 3 million people in the US and Canada over the past 30 years.
I am a former teacher, coach, television talk show host who started speaking to teens, teachers and business leaders with the hopes of sharing simple truths combined with powerful experiences that would lead to better ways to live our days.
My work in high schools has led me to keynoting programs for national conferences at some of the largest stages for youth in the country with organizations like DECA, FFA, FBLA, FCCLA, BETA, PBL, Student Council, CADA and many others.
Over the last 10 years my work with students has become more impactful after the loss of my brother to suicide. Out of that pain, I created "The School Unity Project" a culture building program that teaches teens the importance of building relationship, understanding ego and self-respect. The School Unity Project has been a featured program in over 20 states at hundreds of high schools and is truly some of the most meaningful, life changing work of my career.
Each August, I get to speak to, and listen to over 10,000 college freshman at various campuses around the country, and the lessons I learn from them continues to create a rich tapestry from which I draw insight and powerful messages.
Programs for educators have always been a favorite of mine, and as a former teacher I really do understand the challenges upon todays' educators. My "Essentials of Engagement" program is filled with tools and strategies that draw students in, encourages them to build relationship and engage in the "experience" of education.
Working with teens, teachers and college students really hones my skills for working in the business world. Experience that provides unique perspectives, powerful stories and relevant truths that can be applied to all ages. The Business Culture Seminars and Programs I get to present are filled with humor, appropriate activities, great audience interaction and a fun day of connecting and building.
In my book, The YOGOWYPI Factor, I explain the genesis of YOGOWYPI (You Only Get Out What You Put In) that was created by my communication professor, the late Dr. Jim Costigan who passed almost 30 years ago. His message of YOGOWYPI has been the mantra of my life. A lot of energy "IN" has led to a pretty cool profession.
